Introduction

This action removes the NAT Gateway reference from every subnet currently associated with it, simulating an outbound-internet outage for the workloads in those subnets.

Only the NAT Gateway reference is touched; every other subnet property is preserved. Each subnet's NAT Gateway reference is restored on stop.

Use Cases

  • Verify that workloads behind the NAT Gateway handle the loss of outbound internet gracefully (retries, circuit breakers, queueing).
  • Test alerting on a sudden drop in egress traffic or rising connection failures to external services.
  • Exercise dependency-failure scenarios for outbound calls to third-party APIs, package mirrors, or SaaS services.

Rollback

The NAT Gateway reference is restored on every previously-attached subnet when the experiment stops. If the agent loses connectivity mid-experiment, the subnet remains disassociated until manually re-attached.
